In Between Project

A multimedia installation that reflects about the human experience of crossing and undoing borders— of territory, culture, and identity.

Part I - Narratives of the Migrant Body

Narratives of the Migrant Body is a multimedia movement piece and the first installment of In-Between, created by Angelica Monteiro. Angelica and cast members Valentina Reyes, Natalia DePaula, and Makenna Wallace embody their individual and family migration histories to challenge the myths underpinning the U.S. immigration system in order to find “home.” Blending Brazilian and U.S. street dances, improvisation and spoken word, the cast invites the audience to consider the fictions circulating in their consciousness about immigration and the idea of borders. Narratives of the Migrant Body’s premier is supported by Planet Texas 2050, the University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance and ARCOS Dance.

Part II - In Between City and Rainforest

A photography exhibition that brings the Brazilian Amazon to the U.S., through the eyes and body of artist Angelica Monteiro. The series of photographies came together during a simple walk in the urban and rural communities where she grew up.
